Hot Off the Press – New Control Loop Foundation Book

A few weeks ago, I highlighted a new process control fundamentals book by Emerson technologists Terry Blevins and Mark Nixon. Terry and Mark were burning the midnight oil to have the book, Control Loop Foundation – Batch and Continuous Processes, published in time for next week’s Emerson Exchange.

Share photos on twitter with TwitpicTheir hard work has paid off as I am now holding an autographed copy in my hands. Some of the chapters from the book include measurements, on-line analyzers, final control elements, field wiring and communications, control and field instrumentation documentation, operator graphics, process characterization, control system objectives, single-loop control, tuning and loop performance, multi-loop control, model predictive control, process simulation, and applications. Terry and Mark share their combined decades of process control experience in these chapters.

If you’re planning to join us in San Antonio next week at the Emerson Exchange technical conference, then you too can get an autographed copy. The books will be for sale at the ISA Bookstore located by the main registration area in the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center. If you’re not able to join us, the books are now stocked and available for sale on the ISA website.

Also at the Exchange, Terry and Mark will be presenting some of the concepts from the book in a short course titled the same as the book–Control Loop Foundation – Batch and Continuous Processes. The short course will be held twice. The first session is 8-11am and again from 1:15-4:15pm on Wednesday, September 29. They’ll present many of the key ideas from the book.

Terry also noted that they’d be holding a drawing to give away two books at each of the two short courses. You’ll definitely want to make sure you add this short course to your personal schedule.

Since many of you who read this blog are located all over the world, and not able to travel to the Emerson Exchange this year, I asked Terry if he’d mind if I posted the slides from their short course. He gave me the green light, so here is the presentation:

I hope you’ll find some of these concepts from the presentation to be helpful in your personal development and process optimization efforts. Also, I hope you find the book to be of value should you also get your hands on one.
