It’s about transferring digital data into digital intelligence by using the thousands of touch and sensing points in your plant and advanced analytics to help you recognize patterns and make decisions based on patterns instead of individual measurements.

What’s causing refiners and chemical producers to explore IIoT technologies?

A key driver for the digital transformation in the CPI is maintaining a competitive edge. Global competition, immediate communications and technological advances are creating an environment where businesses need to respond with increasing speed. Aligning production and business through the tools available with digitalization offers new possibilities for business models.

IIoT is an important part of Digital Transformation (DX) of how the plant is run and maintained. There are other aspects to digital transformation as well. Many tasks will still be carried out in the plant “on-prem”; currently manual and paper-based, but with DX they are instead software-based. Together, these DX solutions are achieving operational excellence such as improve reliability, reduce maintenance cost, improve energy efficiency, reduce HS&E incidents and response time, and increase productivity etc. Many plants are already successful with digital transformation including a mix of on-premise digital and IIoT.
